Foodie Friday! & A little of This'n'That!

It's Foodie Friday!
Everybody's Favorite Day
Hosted by our very own

Today I am sharing
with you
a simple and SWEET
way to prepare
Candied Sweet Potatoes.

I tried to gussy up the recipe...
Once  I baked real sweet potatoes -
they wanted these instead...
I tried Paula Deen's recipe -
you know the one -
the sweet potato balls rolled in coconut.
Nope they didn't want them....
I tried whipping them -
They actually got mad at me!

They wanted their
Sweet Potatoes with Peeps on Top!

Easter was a very special day at our house....
It was my niece (& Goddaughter) Amanda's birthday!
We had "Eastery" wrapped surprises for her!

She wanted a marble cake with whipped frosting.
I didn't have time to make it for her
so she got one from Sam's Club instead.
And of course, the only cake they had left
in that combo was the sheet cake.
Do you think we had enough for 8 people?

We had an egg hunt for the "kids".
You know the guy on the left...
Then there is Amanda - our birthday girl,
Allen, Megan and Aaron.
I hid golden goose eggs
(filled with cash
to make it worth-their-while)
 around the back yard.
While we were cooking,
Gramma noticed through the window
 that an egg was missing
from it's hiding place.
We ran outside and looked everywhere...
It was no where to be found.
Jacob swore up and down
he didn't touch it.
Luckily, I had another egg in the house
and some extra cash,
 We made the "Kids"
search for them ASAP after they arrived.
(Later Jacob and Grampa found the egg -
still intact - money and all -  buried in the garden leaves.)

Speaking of egg hunts...
Miles participates in an egg hunt
every year.
It's so cute,
Jacob places dog treats in plastic eggs
and hides them around the house.
Then he tells Miles
"Start Looking".
He searches and searches.
When he spots one
He rushes over to it
and tells Jacob
to open it up for him.

I can't believe he remembers
how to do it year after year....

Thanks for visiting me today.
Check out the rest of

Robyn

Peeps on the sweets! Now that is what I call creative. I am smiling and laughing. I never thought of this and I know my grandkids would think this was the cats meow! I wonder if I can freeze Peeps until Thanksgiving? Your large sheetcake from Cosco plus the Peeps would put me in a sugar sleep for days. I have made those Paula Deen coconut sweet potatoes balls and they are amazing! Can you tell I like sugar?

Sounds like fun, that is too cute about Miles!
I think the Peeps looked a little scared about going into the oven, maybe next time you should get them drunk first. lol

You had a good family time.

Miles finds the egg because a dog's nose smells food--even inside a plastic egg!

Love the Peeps on the sweet potatoes! I hope they felt no pain. Like Mrs.B.Silly, I hope they had a little vodka before hitting the heat!

This by far brought a smile to my face and laughter to my heart! I will have to make these Peep sweets for my family next Easter. I can see how this will quickly turn into a family tradition. I wonder if I could make my sweet potato pie this way too?

Sweet wishes,
Sara

The peeps on the top of the casserole is just one clever idea! We used to have our cairn terrier hunt for "his" egg at Easter and he also used to get his own present to tear open at Christmas. Sadly, he is gone, so I alwasys enjoy seeing pictures of other people's doggies. :-) I'll be back again soon. Sue

I love the Peeps potatoes. I must try that next year. It's neat how quickly the dogs catch on to the Easter hunt, isn't it? My guys picked it up so fast.

OK, OK, I know I said I would stop but...geez, you have that poor doll in your closet and then...and then...you cook PEEPS! They look so...well...so DEAD! At least I just bite off their heads...quick and humane!☺ Once the head is gone they can't feel anything anyway☺
