You are Gonna Wish...

By the time you are done reading this
you are going to wish this was
Wordless Wednesday....

Let's start off with a pic of Miles.
As you know, he has been diagnosed
with allergies and raging ear infections.

Well, if you ever had a dog with ear infections,
then you know what they entails.
Trying to give your dog pills!
The first day he took them as good as gold.
I thought, Hmmmm! This is going to be easy.
NOT!
The next day, I brought out the whipped cream.
He loves, loves, loves that. And it worked
like a charm. Until, (there's always the until)
Jacob opened his trap and told Gramma all about it.
How we covered his pills in whipped cream and
he couldn't get enough of it. Well, the dog can
still hear. He heard every word of it. So, to make
a long story short, he wouldn't touch the whipped cream
the next day. He wouldn't even look at it. He turned
his head away. I forced the pill into his yap.
He spit it out as fast as can be. He went as far
as to step on the pill to hide it - I kid you not!
Wednesday was Squirty Cheese from the can.
Okay, that worked. But not on Thursday.
Thursday was peanut butter. It didn't work.
I had to be a tiny bit mean. I had to force it.
But he still loves me.
He came back and kissed me later.
(We have a few more days to go...)

I've been fertilizing my patio pots
faithfully this summer and here
are the results!

But...I 'm not sure what to say about this little guy.
Did he get too much water?
Not enough water?
I just bought him last weekend
from the Home Depot.
Would you take it back?
That would be embarrassing!
I should do it -
just to mortify Jacob.

I've had requests for shots of the back yard....
I must say - Jacob has done a beautiful with the lawn.
He is the main man on the lawn mower!

This shot is from the patio
looking straight back to the shed.

This is from the swing
looking back to the patio.

And here is the back of the house....
(Above there is a pic of Jacob's
log cabin.)

Woo Hoo! I'm having a ripe tomato!
I see a BLT in the near future.

The Bee has sprouted BEANS!

How kind of those silly rabbits to leave me
one very pretty Canterbury Bells.
I planted at least 7 this year.

I bought a few cucumbers the other day
because I was hungry for
Refrigerator Pickles, and so was my Dad.

The usual ingredients...
cucumbers, sliced onion, S&P, a bit of sugar
and white vinegar.
No real recipe - it's all to taste.

You'll want to be sure to use lots of pepper!
It's better that way. Trust me.
Be sure to refrigerate -
they are way better that way, too.

Last but not least....
Ta Da!
A few of the offenders
have been relocated
in the
BRP*!
(*The Bunny Relocation Program)
They are darn cute though, aren't they?

But keep in mind....
These stems used to be Coneflowers!

See, I told you
you would have preferred
Wordless Wednesday!

Robyn

What in the world do you have growing out of that bunny planter? It's adorable - so tiny!

I enjoyed every word of you post...and everything is beautiful...looks like the little sunflower plants were just not destined to live...we all get things like that sometimes....

Wonderful post!!

Aren't dogs so clever! And they can read minds!

Robyn--We have a Boykin spaniel who suffers from constant ear infections. Unfortunately, he is smarter than both my husband and me! We've tried cheese, peanut butter, sirloin, you name it! Finally got something called Greenies Pill Pockets from the vet and IT WORKS!! I thought he might catch on but so far so good--hope it helps!

Love this post and I love refrigerator pickles!

When my dog has to take pills, I hide them in thinly-sliced lunchmeat. He never gets people-food, so he gobbles it down and never realizes the pills are hiding in there. lol

What a great post. Your planters are gorgeous. Mine didn't do well this year because we had so much rain I thought we were going to have to build an ark. Love your bunny planter.

Loved all of the pictures! And, you weren't wordy - you know I have trouble keeping posts short. Sometimes, it just takes a lot of words to explain the pics!! Hope Miles ordeal ends soon with success. Have a fun weekend. Sally

I know how you feel...we had to start writing notes to each other about miss poo...bath or medicine...she too has allergies and ear infections often...good luck!!!
I think maybe your sunflower has a virus that causes root rot...there is nothing you can do...one day it will be fine...the next collapsed...my pansies had it this year and are long gone to the dump...
as for the rest of your pots and gardens....woo hoo!!! Jacob does a fabulous job on the lawn...and the whole thing just looks glorious! thanks for flaunting with me!

With Buddy I have poked the pill into a piece of hot dog weenie. It just slides inside and Buddy doesn't chew it anyway so down it goes.
Beautiful gardens. Have a nice weekend.

What a wonderful post. Your photos are terrific. I loved your salad. I hope you are having a wonderful day.

I don't know that they will take a plant back. Too much can go wrong with them.
The rest of your plants do look perfectly happy though so I doubt it was your fault with the sunflower.
Pickles look so yummy. Crisp and refreshing.

I just love all of your Bunnies! I had to laugh about the hiding the pills to get your puppy to eat them. I went through the same thing with my Pomeranian one year when it had an ear infection. They somehow just know that pill is there no matter how you try to hide it.Just when I would think he had eaten it the pill would come popping out of his mouth.
Your Canterbury bells are so pretty.

Aw, poor Miles. Archie has the same problem, but we have never been prescribed pills for it. He gets ear drops. If it's very bad, we use otomax; but if it's not too bad, or if we catch it fast enough, then we use a holistic remedy whipped up by my vet. What is Miles allergic to? I must take a peek at your other blog entries (I've been too busy to check in at blogland lately).

Congrats on the tomato! I have a couple of tiny tims ready, but no full size ones yet.

It IS hard to get a pill down a smart dog's throat; I've been there, done that.

I want to come share that tomato in a BLT sandwich with some of the cukes on the side!

I've glad you caught some of those eating intruders!

Poor Miles, I hope he is better soon. When I have to give my dog a pill I always hide it in a piece of hotdog. He swallows them so fast he never knows there was a pill in it.
Your flowers and your yard look great. So does that cucumber sliced up with vinegar.

Oh my gosh...look at those coneflowers...bunnies like echinacea, huh? Do you have an SRP? (Squirrel Relocation Program) My 4 hibiscus on my deck look like your coneflower. Love all your bunny topiaries...they don't EAT the flowers! :-)

Hi Robyn! Cucumbers prepared the way you described are favorites of mine ... combined with ripe tomatoes fresh from the garden (Midwest being the best)~ a meal fit for a Queen.

The scene in my blog header is from an area only miles from my home. Mt. Bachelor (ski resort) sits in the background. I have always loved trains ... the mystery, romance and power of them. Say a hello to your Dad from this former MN woman!

It's almost time for the Fair!

Whoa girl, your flowers are looking amazing!!!! What are those funky windows down at the bottom? They look old fashioned, yet brand new. Your yard is gorgeous!!!
Awww, poor bunny getting carted away from all the good eats!

As for the dog and pills, you are such a penis. Buy Greenis Pill Pockets! Easy as pie and dogs and cats LOVE THEM.

Justine :o )
