Let me join in on the recipe fun! Here are some of my family's favorites.
They are simple and simply delicious.
The night before or Thanksgiving Eve
I have to make this....
Ambrosia Salad
2 14oz cans of Dole Pineapple Tidbits - drained
1 14oz can of Dole crushed pineapple - drained
I save the juice for Jacob to drink later.....
1 11oz can of Geisha mandarin oranges - drained
1 package of mini marshmallows
1/2 package of angel flake coconut - more or less to taste
Maraschino cherries sliced in half about half the jar
if you use more than that it will overpower the salad
3/4 of a 16 oz container of sour cream - you don't want it
to be too loose or too dry - if it gets to loose add more
coconut - too dry more sour cream - see it's easy!
Refrigerate Overnight.
Sweet Potatoes with my Secret Ingredient
2 29oz cans of sweet potatoes in their own syrup - drained
1/2 cup brown sugar sprinkled over sweet potatoes
1 stick of butter cut into pats and dotted over sugar
Peeps - yes I said Peeps. Shaped like pumpkins (face down)
or snowman. I did this for the kids when they were young
and my niece and nephews would have a fit if I didn't continue this tradition (they are now 26, 24, and 22).
I used to make this in my corningware loaf pan - however the other day I opened my cupboard and found it cracked in half!
I don't know if my sweet potatoes will ever taste the same:(
I tried making them with baked and mashed sweet potatoes
but the kids had a fit. So back to canned - I know, so gourmet....

I've always like Ambrosia Salad, but I've never heard of using Peeps for sweet potatoes. I guess marshmallows are the same thing. Clever of you.
Ambrosia was always my favorite part of Thanksgiving! Peeps are brilliant!!!!

I always wait till the last minute to plan my Thanksgiving menu, but what a good reminder you've given me.
That is such a smart idea using peeps! I usually return the casserole and brown my marshmallows. Do you do the same with the peeps?

My mother used to always make Ambrosia for my daddy during the holidays. Since he's passed away, we can't bring ourselves to make it again. Oh, you brought back some sweet memories.
