OUTDOOR WEDNESDAY & A LITTLE BIT MORE OF THIS & THAT

Miles loves Outdoor Wednesday!

He loves to help me plant flowers and herbs.
He patiently waits for me to take
the new little "plant-ling" (is that a word?)
or should I call it
"the little $3.99  3-1/2"  potted herb
that's not on sale - ever...."
so I bought just a few,
a little of this and a little of that
and $45.00 later.....
Miles can enjoy grabbing
that empty container and running full speed
around the yard.

Today was 90+ degrees!
I am "one of those people" that are the
first to put on shorts,
but have no business wearing them in public.

But you know,  I am 46 and I just don't give a Rat's Aster
what people think anymore.
If I'm hot, gosh darn it, I'm gonna wear shorts.

My doctor referred me to a Rheumatologist -
a few weeks ago.  It seems like right after my 46th birthday,
I started falling apart.  Or actually, I felt like I was run over
by a Mack Truck.

My whole body hurt everywhere.   Especially my hands.
You know I need my hands for work,  and for blogging...
Anyway,  it took 3 weeks to get into the Specialty Clinic
and the doctor that I was assigned turned out to be
the Biggest Jerk.
For 45 minutes of the one  hour  appointment
I got raked over the coals for my BMI.
How it wouldn't pay for him to treat my joints
because I would just have a heart attack and die
anyway.
THEN he proceeds to read my chart... oh yeah,
well your blood pressure is okay,  well you're just
going to be a diabetic anyway, oh well, I guess not -
but I'm sure your diet is terrible,  yeah, I see that your
Cholesterol numbers are good.
Oh yeah, your sediment rate is kind of high.
Well, if you lost some weight you'd feel better.
Let me see your joints....
yeah, they are swollen,  Hmmm, your knee is grating.
Here's a list of physical therapists.  Make an appointment
with one and learn how to exercise.
Don't come back here until you lose some weight,
start with 5 pounds.
Yeah, you have some type of arthritis....
I just can't tell you what type it is - it's
not Rheumatoid or Lupus.
I can tell him what type -
Psoriatic.  I told him that at the beginning
of my appointment.
It runs in my family.  My Mom has it, her sister-my Aunt,
and my cousin.  In our family,  we get the arthritis first
and the psoriasis about a decade later.
My cousin was only in her 20's when she was afflicted.
She went to the Mayo Clinic for her diagnosis.
Only 3% of the population develop the arthritis first.
He didn't want to hear about it.....
But I sure do know, that he rides his bike to  work
everyday, and he races his bike on weekends,
and he swims daily, and etc.
I received my bill for his appointment today.
$345.00.
Everybody I talked to about this wanted to know why
I just sat there and took this.  Why I didn't walk out.
I don't know.  I sure do know that it's going to kill me
to pay for this abuse!
Besides, I think I gained another 5 pounds -
just because.

Don't forget to stop and visit
 she has the list
of all of the
Outdoor Wednesday offerings!
And she's real nice, too!

Your potted plants are lovely. When visiting my blog you asked about yhe poppy tea pot. It says Hall on the bottom. I'm not at home now, but can send you more info tomorrow.

Thanks for visiting and enjoy your day!

Robyn,

I don't understand how so many jerks can be Doctors....have ran into so many of them that spend the whole appointment circling the issues and not listening to a darn thing you are telling them...I mean really you've known your body for 46 years...he just met you...ran into same problems with my Mom and my father in law...both ended up in hospital because the Dr. would not listen....EEEKKKKK
glad you have a great attitude...just keep looking till you find a Dr. that will listen...
your dog is cute..I have 2 schnauzers..they are so much fun...

He obviously failed the "Listen-to-your-patients" class and the "Bedside Manner" class.

Robyn, nothing surprises me, butto be forced to suffer that kind of arrogance is intolerable. I can't believe he acted like that. I hope you can find another doctor who will handle your case better and who has a decent bedside manner.

I go to Mayo to see my internist, but I also go to a naturopath in another state.

Loved your cute dog dragging the planter around the yard. Makes me miss my badder than bad two!

Happy OW...

XO,

Sheila :-)

Your containers are very pretty and I can just imagine your dog running with the empty containers. Doctors like that sure make it hard on the good guys. Sorry about your experience and your pain.

I love your planters, and plants, I just came from the doctor, my blood count is low, no suprise there, anemia runs in my family, I think it was shock that made you tolerate the doctor, sometimes meanies catch us off guard, and who would expect a doctor to me so mean?

Whatever, 'throw him behind your back' as my grandma would say, that's Trinidadian for 'forget about him and move on'

Enjoy the rest of your day!

Yep, I know just what you mean. I'm 52, and stretching exercises are part of my life twice per day for 12 years. To keep the pain at bay. But we should do it our own way, not some doctor's prescribed one-size-fits-all exercise regimen. By the way, my Yorkies do the same thing with pots. I take the plant out of the little nursery pot. They wait patiently (sometimes impatiently) for it. Then off they go running with it through the yard like a frisbee! So funny what little entertains them!

I love the picture and girl, you just wear those shorts and be yourself. I have ten years on you, I could lose weight and I don't care.
Since you had to pay the bill anyway it would have been quite appropriate to tell him that he was arrogant and rude, but you probably just sat there stunned. I always think of good things to say after the fact. These guys are rampant in the medical profession. I am sorry you stumbled into such a jerk.

ps: Miles is adorable

I have had docs like that...and no one ever figured out why I almost died...or what caused it! they just poked and remarked and sometimes even joked! I have a mystery allergy that could at any moment come back...without warning and make me so sick ...I think they should be screened before they become docs...personality screening!
I do hope you will sign up for Fertilizer Friday and show off your wonderful plantings some more...a little of this or that is looking outstanding!

oh and by the way!!!! we are wearing winter coats here ...it is cold and I think I saw some flakes of snow again...a full foot of snow on Monday...and today we can see our breath! I am so tired of being chilly....I would love some of your hotness! (and I would wear some shorts too...even tho I also have no business doing so!)

Your plants look great and that doctor sounds like a jerk! Wish you had walked out after telling him he was a jerk. The nerve!

Sue said...

Robyn, Your dog is so cute, and even if he IS a bit of a fooler, you know he makes you laugh!! Mine always stole my socks and ran around the house shaking them in his mouth. Never let anyone get the best of you, girl! Stand up for what you believe in, and do not allow anyone, no matter WHO he/she is, take advantage of you or your situation. We all deserve respect, and this physician did not give it to you. I trust you will not be seeing him again? Take care, Sue

Robyn,

Sounds like your Doc was a real live jerk! Some of them (Docs) can be so cold... it's as if they become emotionless robots.

Your plants look great and so does that little cute Doggie of yours!

Wear what you want; I do. And it's always a dress. Several years ago, I took my little fellas to a pumpkin patch, wearing a dress and boots, and a couple of old ladies started making snide comments out of my earshot - but they were surprised! A giant redhead walked up to them, and said, "Yes, she's dressed differently. But she looks great. And she's my mother. And my brothers and sisters all work here, too. So don't talk about her any more, or you'll anger other redheads." Boy were they embarrassed. And I was so proud of my son. (A co-worker of his told me of the incident; he never admitted it.) As for the doctor, well, doesn't he think you know you're not skinny? Let's start with being 46! Then add being a mother! You can't possibly weigh 100 pounds any more! His job is to HELP, not nag! We love you, even if ol' Doc Bicycler doesn't.

Robyn, that's what we just took down! Those helicopter seeds were all over. I just went out and pulled 10 tiny maple seedlings out of my flower beds. One of the guys who was cutting it down said it was the last tree on earth he would plant in his yard.

Good for you, wear your shorts!

Hi Robyn

Your plants are so pretty( I love your rabbit planter) and Miles is quite a cutie! Iamagine how hot he is in 90 degree heat with all that fur...whew!

That doctor was very unprofessional! If he felt you should lose weight he should have been helpful and not snide and sarcastic. So many women have thyroid problems in their 40's -- I know I did -- did any of your doctors test yours for hypothyroidism? That causes joint pain and weight gain, fatigue, hair loss, etc.
I hope you feel better soon. Tell your first doctor was a putz the second one was, and that you were very unhappy with him!
Stay cool!

Robyn, your herbs look delicious from here! ;-) My herb pot is struggling a little, so I don't how my herb garden will turn out this summer.

Now this is just so unprofessional! This makes me angry! I had an experience with a surgeon that makes me wonder the same thing-why didn't I just get up and walk out! I hadn't had a mammogram in several years, and he said I'd have to have a lump removed. When scheduling the surgery, I asked if there was any urgency to schedule it. His reply: Since you haven't had a mammogram in so long-what difference does it make when we schedule the surgery! If I hadn't been naked, I probably would have walked out! laurie

I just found your blog. Not sure which links I was following... but anyway I got here today and I LOVE IT. You're so funny and your gardens are amazing. I'll enjoy reading all of your older posts.
I had to comment about this doctor's appointment, though. My brother had a referral to see a surgeon for his wrist. The doctor had my brother take off his short sleeved shirt and then said "boy you sure are fat!" and then he asked the nurse to shut the door so that my brother didn't "scare all the women out there"
My brother has a little paunch around his middle, but he is not fat.. I couldn't believe how he was treated (and had to pay for, too!)
I'm sorry you were treated so poorly.
