Sunday Favorites - Raggedy Ann Revisited

Welcome to Sunday Favorites
created by our
Dear Chari
from

I think that this is a great idea
because we can shake the cobwebs
off an older post and share them
with you all again.

Dear, Dear Raggedy Ann.  She is only 45 years old.
The stories she could tell.
She was with me since I was an infant.  I took her everywhere.
I couldn't go to sleep without her.
I used to launder and iron her little clothes.
She rode along on my trike and then in  my flowered bike basket.
I brought her along to my Gramma's house for a summertime visit (1970).
Against my wishes, I left her behind when I went to visit cousins.   Pepe' the Mn. Poodle
chewed off her foot!   My Gramma called my Mom LONG DISTANCE during the DAY
so worried about telling me!   My brother, 5 years older than me, (age of 12) had to
sew on a new foot constructed from an uncle's black sock.  Can you
imagine the "goings on" in that house all afternoon.   My Gramma
was afraid to show me when I returned.   I wanted to cry, but I was a big girl
and acted like it was okay.
Now let's fast forward to the 1990's.
I had the cutest little Miniature Schnauzer,
BusterBoy.
Buster was such a good boy.  He was very smart.
He could do a lot of tricks.   He was my baby before I had my son.
He was my true companion.
I had Raggedy sitting on a rocking chair in my bedroom.
I walked into my room to see her lying on the floor
with her eyes ripped off!  Whatever possessed him to do that - I don't know.
I just don't know how to repair her.  I don't think that I can.
Her material is soooo old.  45 years old.
She sits on my closet shelf.  Staring at me with her poor
little shoe button eyes every time I open the door.
I'm afraid to take her out of the closet.   I don't want to lose her eyes.
Afterall, she still means so much to me.
And Jacob pointed out through it all she still wears her smile!

  1. I love that you still have your doll. She has a lot of battle scars, but she is still loved. You can't ask for more. Thanks for sharing. Hopefully nothing more will happen to her.

  2. What a great story. It makes your doll all the more uniquely you! I have a bunny that I have had since I was a little girl - she too suffered the unwanted attentions of a dog but lived to tell the tale. In answer to your stock question the brand is Knorr Simply Stock. It is a liquid stock in a yellow sachet which holds 450mls. I don't know if it is available in the US but I hope this helps. Have a wonderful weekend ;)

  9. Aren't Raggedy's wonderful? Many years ago I worked with an elderly woman whos father was the man who "invented" Raggedy Ann and Andy. There last name was Gruelle I believe. It tickels me to think that something that started out as a father's gift to his girls could be such a legacy.

  17. I had a Raggedy that would be pushing 50 now if I still had her. Poor thing probably was laid to rest in a landfill somewhere, what a way to go. I hope I get better treatment than she did. lol I'm glad you are lucky enough to still have your Ann!

  18. Ohmygosh, I'd have to put sunglasses on her so I wouldn't be able to see her poor eyes! There just has to be someone out there that could help you. Gosh, we used to darn socks, didn't we?

I think I'd take a photo with me to some quilting shops, craft stores, fabric stores and ask if they knew anyone that could help. In the meantime...sunglasses...and a big, floppy hat. My face hurts just looking at her!

  20. Oh my goodness, I have the "same" Raggedy Anne doll, and she has been with me for 50 years! She is in slightly more "together" shape, but was played with and loved in a similar way. Yours shows the proud battle scars of life!

Lovely post... I think playing with dolls and loving them is a wonderful thing for children.

  22. I had a Raggedy Ann, too. I hope my mom still has her packed away somewhere in the attic! Yours is precious and well-loved, regardless of her battle scars from Buster. Great story! ~hugs, Rhonda :)

  23. Oh, I am so glad I found your blog, your Raggedy Ann is so precious and I can see why you love her so much. I'm so glad you still have her, and all the sweet memories to go with her. I don't know how it works, but I do know they now have a product that is invisible stitch, it's like a blue, maybe that would mend her. You might check it out at the fabric store. Also, thanks for stopping by and leaving such gracious comments. I really appreciate it. Hugs, Marty

  24. I had a huge Andy given to me in the 70's and in the mid 90's his face was ripped apart by our family dog....must be the eyes?? after years of moving Andy around I finally tossed him, I couldn't stand his sad eyes any more, your story gives me a little regret. No it pained me to see him like that. Hopefully he found a good new home through Good Will. happy pink, and love your Anne, Heidi

  31. Her injuries have left scars (don't we all have them?)but they only show that she was (and still is) very well loved. Thank you for sharing your heartwarming story....I think you little doggie was jealous....have you ever wanted to just rip somebody's eyes out? :) And, through it all, she still loves you unconditionally....you can see it in her smile (kids are great to notice these things, huh?)!

  32. Dang...that Buster made poor Anne a little more raggedy than she needed to be!!! Schnauzers are evil like that. Although Ozzie wants to assure you that he would never eat your doll's face! I'm so sorry that happened! And I love the idea of dusting off some old posts. I may do that myself!

  33. Thanks for stopping by my new blog. What I did was try to make my blog into three columns by editing the HTML. I used a Blogger book and when I was done I had murdered my whole blog. But it is all better now.

  35. Awww! This reminds me so much of my family of teddy bears that I cherished growing up. I still have them today and will never part with them, battle scars and all. I must say though, they didn't go through quite the trauma of your poor Raggedy Ann!
